Many of you have not uploaded your “Banana Club” Form and jQuery slideshow assignments.
Final Project: Monday May Design
Your final project is due on our last class on Monday, December 19. No late projects accepted.
Final Project checklist
Before completing your project make sure you have reviewed the checklist below:
- Did you research the project and define a target audience for the site?
- Did you successfully create a strong, visually effective site?
- Did you follow the specified dimensions based on a 1024 x 728 monitor resolution?
(Finished width is 990 pixels and “the fold” is 560 pixels. Do not make your site a fixed height) - Did you create your site using CSS Column Layout (did you use divs not tables)?
- Did you design effective main navigation and sub-navigation for your site?
- Did you title your pages and highlight navigation?
- Did you use mostly HTML text in your site?
- Did you create and use only one CSS file for your site?
- Did you create a form for the site?
- Did you incorporate a jQuery slideshow somewhere on the site?
- Did you create placeholder pages for the remaining pages of your site? (A placeholder page is the structure of the page with all the navigation but it doesn’t need to have complete text and photos. This is an example of a placerholder page).
- Did you upload the website to the server and view it on the server to make sure everything is displaying and working correctly?
The focus of this project is to create a complete, portfolio quality website. You’re designing the website for a creative studio that currently does not have a website. (Designing a personal website is not allowed.):
- Monday May Design. Pretend that you work at Monday May Design, a new, innovative creative studio, and they’re relying on you to create the studio website. Monday May Design is based in Los Angeles and sees themselves as hip and innovative. Base your design on your favorite design studios. (You do have design studio websites that you like, right?) What works well in these sites? And how can you incorporate an effective design into your work? If you want to completely rebrand the company (including a name change), go for it! I want you to come up with a strong concept and strategy for the branding and design of the website.
- Here is the link to a site map for this project. But do not assume that this is the best content for the site, or the best organization for the content. Do research and re-create a site map based on what you discover. Remember that the creative studio perceives themselves as hip and innovative, so the content should reflect this too. Create a new site map for the project.
- Create a HTML form for the website.
- Create a slideshow feature somewhere on the site using jQuery.
Your new website design should have a strong design aesthetic that reflects a specific attitude and look and feel for the site that you create. The site design should also reflect a strong technical sophistication.
Your design should be original. You must make use of royalty free images for your project. You CANNOT use images from other websites. You may use your own original artwork and/or photography if you prefer.
Your site should consist of:
- 6-8 complete pages and placeholder pages for the rest of the pages.
- A sub-navigation menu in addition to the main navigation.
- A strong visual design.
- A theme and visual concept that carries through the site. Work on branding the website.
- A clear navigation system.
- An effective and clear system of displaying the studio’s portfolio of work.
- A design that works well on 1024×728 displays (i.e. navigation & primary content inside 990×560)
- 6-8 pages that have complete content, including photos and text.
- You must use embed fonts in addition to web-safe fonts.
Your final project pages will include:
- Home page
- Our Work/Portfolio (or named something similar) with slideshow or gallery feature
- Contact page with form
- 3-5 additional pages
Please note: You must make use of royalty free images for your project. You may use your own original artwork and/or photography if you prefer.
Lastly, in preparation for the final, upload a folder to our class server named: lastname_first_final. You will upload your midterm project to your folder on or before Monday, December 19.
